Senior Officer (SO) the ASEAN Secretariat

The ASEAN secretariat in Jakarta invites ASEAN nationals to apply for the following vacancy

SENIOR OFFICER (SO) – ENVIRONMENT

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Head of the Environment Division, the SO Environment shall be responsible to coordinate, monitor and provide support for the formulation and implementation of policies/ programmes/ project activities in the field of environment such as nature conservation and biodiversity, coastal and marine environment, water resources management, urban environmental management and relevant multilateral environmental agreements, as guided by the ASEAN Community Blueprints, in particular the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Blueprint.

Requirements:

  • At least a master’s degree, related to environmental studies/management, sustainable development, or related fields.
  • A minimum of five to six years experience with a proven record of accomplishment and exposure dealing with a wide range of environmental issues at national or regional levels.
  • At least two years of managerial and supervisory experience in government, private sector and/or international organisation.

General qualifications:
Good research and presentation skills. Competency in written and spoken English; computer literacy and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office tools; ability to multi-task, work long and irregular hours, and perform outside the usual job scope; ability to function effectively independently and as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment; and a willingness to travel frequently on short notice.

Remuneration and Benefits:
The successful candidate will be offered a contract with six months probation and a monthly salary commensurate with his/her qualifications starting from USD 2,900. Other benefits and allowances include housing, medical, education of dependent children, gratuity, and annual performance bonus in accordance with the staff and financial rules and regulations of the ASEAN Secretariat. Upon successful completion of the probationary period and depending on performance, the candidate will be confirmed for a three-year contract, inclusive of the six-month probationary period in the first instance.
