(1) ROTECTION ASSISTANT (GL6)
Vacancy No. & Duty Station: 09/INSJA/01 – Jakarta

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for conducting refugee status determination interviews of individual cases and completing the assessments; Informs and acts on the reports received from asylum seekers, refugees or from local authorities; Follow-up protection issues with authorities concerned regarding persons of concern to UNHCR; Maintains liaison with officials concerned on protection issues; Acts as interpreter and translator when required, and performs other duties as required.

(2) PROTECTION ASSISTANT (GL6)
Vacancy No. & Duty Station: 09/INSJA/012 – Tanjung Pinang

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
In close co-ordination with relevant authorities such as immigration and police offices in areas covered from Tanjung Pinang, responsible for ensuring access to asylum procedures by individual cases; Initiates and undertakes eligibility assessments for individual cases and reports to Eligibility Officer based in Jakarta, Informs and acts on reports received from asylum seekers, refugees or from local authorities; Maintains liaison with local authorities including immigration and police to follow up on training activities regarding protection and treatment of refugees/asylum seekers; Assists in assessing welfare and providing assistance to persons of concern to UNHCR in particular those in prisons or detention centres; Oversees integrity of refugee/asylum seekers registration system and statistics; Acts as interpreter and translator; Assists in durable solution activities; & performs other duties as required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Complete secondary education but preferably University Degree in International Law, political studies or related discipline, with minimum of 4 years previous job experience in same functional area, and good grasp of human rights. Experience working in multi-cultural environment an added asset.

LANGUAGE: Proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia and English (written and oral) essential; knowledge of other languages is an asset.

DESIRABLE SKILLS: communication, good knowledge of UNHCR’s protection mandate, excellent writing, good interviewing skills, legal background or equivalent.

OTHERS: computer literate with proficiency in using other office equipment (fax, telephone, typewriter, photocopy, etc.)
